I have just gotten an 8 week old blue merle. He is not eating very much. We are giving him honey in his water rto be sure to prevent hypoglycemia but I do not know how much he should be eating a day. The bag say 1- 1 1/4 cup a day and he only eats about 1/4- 1/2 cup! I am worried that is not enough. Please help how much does a puppy this small usually need? I know that he should not have been seperated until 10-12 weeks but the breeder was getting rid of them and I wanted him to have a good home

Hi, kjsmom72803.

It depends on the weight and size of your chihuahua. 1 - 1 1/4 cups of dogfood is too much for an 8 week old chihuahua. Based on your message, your dog is eating just right. So, no worries. =)

Our vet determined that based on Chappy's weight/size, she should have 1-2 cups of food a day. I usually measure out the amount each day and give her part in the morning and part in the evening.  Then if she is hungry and scratches her bowl, I give her a little bit more at night.  She lets us know when she wants to eat!  We try not to give her too many treats, but she gets them occasionally. Hehe!
