Doodles

« on: March 15, 2008, 07:35:52 AM »

Doodles is a 6lb, 1.5 years old female and is litter trained...most of the time.  We have 2 litter boxes for her...1 in our backroom where she stays during the day with her sister (70lb female Irish Setter, Marley) and 1 in our living room.  Doodles however likes to poop in my daughter's room and occasionally on my husbands side of the bed.  I've never caught her in the act, but I always show her the poop and say NO in a firm voice.  Any suggestions on curbing this behaviour?  Doodles is a very easy going Hua, we have 4 children and she does very well in our busy house...but I'm getting very frustrated with the wayward pooping!

Thanks,  Huh

Hey Jenny4 and Doodles,

You're on the right track by using a strong firm voice,
Keep it up and always show her the mess but more importantly,

#1) Get her close enough to smell what she has done.

#2) Associating the mistake with a Firm no and smell will register more
quickly with Doodles as opposed to seeing the mess.

As you said, it's quite hard catching them in the act but I'm sure
you're doing just fine.

#3) As soon as you notice the mistake or catch her in the act, take her straight to the litter box so within time she'll learn the correct place to poop.

1 more thing, (the most important), Always treat Doodles to her favourite biscuits and give her loads of cuddles when she does show signs of wanting to poop in the litter box or outside Smiley

All the best.

Please stick around and enjoy the forum my friend.

Once they KNOW it's wrong, chihuahuas are very obidient.
It's a shame they are slower learners than other breeds.

I have had different breeds all of my life.

Jenny, I'm sure you'll get it under control Smiley

Why will a dog get angry when you blow in it's face but automatically stick it's head out of a car window? Smiley
